Caregiver Training

Empowering Caregivers in Nungua Through Practical Physical Therapy Workshops

Caregivers are the bedrock of support for children living with Cerebral Palsy and other developmental conditions. Last weekend, SalsiaCares Foundation organized an intensive physical therapy and wellness workshop in Nungua to equip parents with essential skills.

Navigating daily care routines without formal medical guidance often creates physical and mental fatigue for primary caregivers. Our workshop brought together professional physiotherapists, nutritionists, and community workers to offer hands-on training tailored to home environments.

Key Highlights from the Workshop

During the interactive sessions, families learned low-cost, effective exercises that enhance joint mobility, maintain proper posture, and reduce discomfort for children with motor challenges.

  • Safe Transfer Techniques: Methods for lifting and seating children to prevent caregiver back injury.
  • Adaptive Stretches: Daily routines to reduce muscle spasticity and promote flexibility.
  • Nutritional Wellness: Custom meal plans built on accessible local Ghanaian ingredients.
"Seeing mothers gain confidence in handling therapy exercises at home reassures us that sustainable community-led care is achievable."

Moving forward, SalsiaCares Foundation will host bi-monthly check-ins to monitor progress, distribute adaptive seating devices, and provide mental health support circles for parents and guardians.

This workshop was so informative! The posture exercises have already made a noticeable difference for my nephew. Thank you SalsiaCares!
